Discernment. It is a word that gets kicked around a lot in retreat centers. We seem to be places where discernment happens. Simply, discernment is a process of inviting God into your conversation about important and mundane matters. Essentially, making God part of your everyday (no matter how boring you think) life. There is a great resource developed by St. Ignatius Loyola called the Examen. It is a process of looking back over your day, recalling the presence or absence of God, looking at your day with gratitude and seeking God as we reconcile, resolve and pray out our day. A simple task, though it does take about 15 minutes. Challenge for the day: find God in all things!
